Information request:
Please view the collections online. Approximately 20% of the collection is available on the portal. If you cannot find what you are looking for or have additional questions, please submit your inquiry to collections-inquiries@arts.ucla.edu
*Note that we are unable to provide appraisal information, authentication, or any other kind of evaluation (for appraisal information you can reference www.appraisersassociation.org).
Institutional loan request:
Please refer to the attached outgoing loan policies for any questions you may have regarding loan requests.
Collections access request:
We welcome requests for collection access from a wide range of scholars, independent researchers, students, and represented communities. Each request will be reviewed and access will be granted on a capacity basis.
To request a research visit, please submit the following to collections-inquiries@arts.ucla.edu:
- Name, title, and affiliation
- A research description or proposal. Please describe your project, including where applicable:
- Collection type (archaeological, historic, ethnographic, etc.)
- Culture and Geographic location(s)
- Objects type(s)
- Accession number(s)
- Site number(s)—where applicable
- Proof of consultation and support from descendant community and/or Tribe (as applicable)
- A brief CV or resume
- Preferred visit dates during non-holiday weekdays between 10 am–12 pm or 1–4 pm
Record photography may be permitted for research purposes only. Any photos taken in the storage areas may not be posted or published without prior museum consent.
All visits should be scheduled at least 6 weeks in advance.
In some cases, collections research fees may be applicable.
Photography request:
Requests to reproduce images, texts, or media belonging to the museum must be directed to and evaluated by the Fowler director of photography. They will be responsible for charging any fees associated with the right to reproduce such images. Please use the following form and e-mail it to fowler-photography@arts.ucla.edu.
